2018 brings forth an exciting collection of monthly talk series to be held on the farm. These nights will include and involve local and young regenerative farmers, innovative people working in food, food waste and sustainability in fun/friendly discussions and panels. Our goal is to create a community of mindful humans through connectivity and shared experience. We believe that real-life interaction, conversations and local Australian stories will allow us to do so.
In light of this farm chat falling on the night before International Women's Day, we are hosting some of the most impressive, trailblazing women behind small scale, organic agriculture and ethical food. The discussion will be focused around what these incredible women are doing with their work and empowering women and young girls to pursue a career in what has been generalised as a masculine gendered field for years. We'll be joined by Epicurean Harvest's Erika, Kirsti of Old Mill Road Bio Farm, Marita from Milton Mushrooms, Lizzie of Piccolo Farm, Erin from RAD Growers, Living Earth Farm's Falani, Fiona of Buena Vista Farm and Eliza, half-Community Coordinator at Pocket City Farms, half-veggie grower.
Let's celebrate the soil crunching women of this country.
Cost: $20
Provided: Your first drink from Young Henrys + nibbles
THE PANEL
ERIKA WATSON is one half of the team behind Epicurean Harvest. Erika and her partner, Hayden are small-scale organic vegetable farmers in the heart of the Blue Mountains. With backgrounds in Science, together they have made a name for themselves in the quality of their food, the passion driving their growing and now supply some of Sydney's top restaurants.
MARITA SMITH of Milton Mushrooms cultivates the grooviest of gourmet mushrooms. The extremely precise and scientific process starts in her makeshift, caravan turned laboratory then moves out underneath a shed for the fruiting period. She lives in Milton, a magical spot on the south coast of New South Wales and has successfully created a thriving business valued immensely by her local community.
KIRSTI WILKINSON runs Old Mill Road Bio Farm. A family run business that aims to enrich local food culture, encourage more small scale farmers, connect those farmers to the consumer and promote the idea that we are not superior to the environment but are part of the ecology.
LIZZIE BUSCAINO of Piccolo Farm, decided to start a family and wanted to supply it and others with the best possible food. The only solution? To start a farm raising pastured fowl and delicious organically grown vegetables.
ELIZA CANNON is the community coordinator at Pocket City Farms. She graduated as a primary school teacher and is also a part time vegetable grower on the outskirts of Camden, NSW. She is passionate about all things food and educating kids and adults about it and the food system we find ourselves in.
FALANI SOFO is half of Living Earth Farm, based in the Southern Highlands. Falani and her partner Olivier are a young farming family with energy and enthusiasm, bringing something active and vibrant into their community. They are committed to keeping their production local, and believe in complete transparency about what they do.
ERIN O-CALLAGHAN runs RAD Growers. A small farm in Bungowannah. Growing real and delicious produce for their local community, using organic and ecological growing practices.
IN CONVERSATION WITH FIONA WEIR WALMSLEY
Fiona runs Buena Vista Farm, one of the most picturesque farms in Gerringong, just south of Sydney. It's an old family farm with an abundant market garden and they run an on-farm cooking school that teaches baking, fermenting and cheese making.
