MACADAMIA
MACADAMIA INTEGRIFOLIA
Macadamias are native to Northern NSW and Queensland, so they will produce nuts well when planted in a climate zone similar to those areas. When planted in colder areas, macadamias may act as a shade-giving ornamental, but may not produce flowers or fruit well.
PLANT
All year round.
HARVEST
Usually between late summer till winter, with the majority in late autumn. When the outer fleshy hull starts to split open, nuts will fall to the ground for easy pick up. Grows up to 7 metres when mature.
EAT
Raw, roasted, salted or used an as oil over salads, the humble macadamia is incredibly versatile, not to mention delicious!
PRESERVE
Macadamia nuts are so delicious to eat as they are, there are rarely any leftover to use up. However they can last up to a couple of months in an airtight container, a bit longer if that container is in the fridge. You can also freeze these nuts or turn them into a yummy pesto or alternative dip.
